Why Did Kakucho Call Takemichi Hero

As a young child, Kakucho happened to be close friends with Takemichi Hanagaki. Takemichi forgot about him as he grew up, but Kakucho did not. Later on, due to an accident that left his parents dead and face heavily scarred, he ends up in an orphanage. Kakucho fashions a makeshift grave for his parents, but Izana Kurokawa meets him and knocks it down, telling him to forget about the dead and become his servant instead. His loyalty solely lies on Izana alone. During the fight against Nahoya Kawata, he tells Takemichi he wishes for Izana to be saved from Tetta Kisaki. During the fight between the Tokyo Manji Gang and Tenjiku, Izana, in a craze, orders Kakucho to be killed. Kisaki then shoots him once but after the first shot Izana jumps infront of him and takes three fatal blows. Izana tells him that he is the only one who hasn't made him feel alone and his body moved on its own to protect him. Izana tells Kakucho to create the new era the one they dreamed about when they were kids before dying, as they were hand and hand. At one of Tenjiku's hideouts in Yokohama, Kakucho welcomes Takemichi Hanagaki, Chifuyu Matsuno, Nahoya Kawata, and Souya Kawata with an assembly of a hundred men. Smiley steps forward and confronts him with a solo duel.

Neither of the two are losing until Smiley sends a forceful kick to Kakucho's chest and wins. The latter is pushed to the ground and lies on the concrete defeatedly as Smiley praises his brute strength for being a member of Tenjiku's Four Heavenly Kings. Takemichi remembers him as the childhood friend he once had in elementary who switched schools in second year. They reminisce their history with each other as Kakucho tells him that he wishes to talk to him alone. He claims that he has heard rumors about Takemichi's accomplishments as a notable member of Toman and tells him that he has not changed since the last time they met in second year, calling Takemichi his hero. However, Kakucho takes his acclamations back and says that he is now a devotee to the boss of Tenjiku, Izana Kurokawa, and declares Toman and Takemichi as his enemies. Tetta Kisaki's manipulation and reveals that he is not in favor of the conflict between their gangs. When Takemichi travels back to the present to further investigate on the conflict between Toman and Tenjiku, Kakucho meets Takemichi in the back alleyway of Taiju Shiba's restaurant after escaping from the top members of the future Toman. Izana instructs him to kill Takemichi and he obeys. Back in the past, Kakucho objects to Izana's decision to instigate conflict against Toman.

39;s orders regarding the fight.

On the night of the fight at Yokohama Bay, Kakucho informs Izana that Toman is way behind the time and is most likely not arriving. However, he is surprised to see them eventually show up with Takemichi in the lead. Takemichi denounces him for knowing about Izana's plan to kill Emma Sano all along, criticizing his hypocritical pacifist views and seemingly genuine disagreement to Izana's orders regarding the fight. Takemichi establishes his goals, including taking Hajime Kokonoi back from Tenjiku, but Kakucho says he cannot convince Koko to take him back because he chose to be a member of the gang himself. Takemichi attacks him out of rage and they fight, but not until they are disturbed by Souya Kawata defeating the remaining four members of the S-62 Generation. Kakucho watches the fight unfold until Yasuhiro Muto unveils a knife and wildly swings it toward Angry. Takemichi protects him and is about to get hit but Kakucho stops Mucho from using the weapon and tells him that he rightfully lost against Toman before punching him in the gut. He warns Mucho to not get corrupted by Tenjiku and brawls with the rest of the Toman members until Takemichi is the only man left standing. As a kid, Kakucho lost against a group of children his age who fought dirty. Takemichi promised to avenge him, but Kakucho swore he will get his own revenge because he wanted to be stronger. In the present, Takemichi congratulates him for becoming strong but questions why he chose to join a band of murderers instead. While beating Takemichi up, Kakucho supplies that he is different from when he was little, and Izana, watching from the sidelines, says that he and Kakucho met in the orphanage where they grew up as brothers.

Kakucho believes that others often do not understand the bond orphans share, so when put up against a childhood friend, he is able to kill them Still. Kakucho finishes Takemichi with one final hit but gets mocked when Takemichi rises from the ground in his poor and beaten up state. Kakucho warns him that he will die if he chooses to continue, and swears to his word when he does. He is only stopped by Chifuyu who interrupts their fight and admits Toman's defeat. However, Takemichi is unmovable and says that Kakucho cannot finish him because of his reluctance to win. Kakucho is stunned, but is moved aside by Kisaki who brandishes a handgun. As a result, he complains about Kisaki's usage of a weapon in a fistfight and reasons that they are merely kids who want to justly battle. The final showdown between Izana and Manjiro Sano begins after the latter's arrival. Mikey is losing to Izana and spectators are amazed at his strength, to which Kakucho supplies that Izana finds his power in solitude. He narrates Izana's history as he watches him and Mikey brawl, but eventually steps in when Izana steals Kisaki's handgun and nearly fires it at Mikey.

Takemichi then admits that he has not calmed down since the day Kisaki died, vigorously shaking.

He reasons with Izana that they are inferior to him and that he cannot be defeated, but is suddenly shot by Kisaki as he and Izana argue. Kakucho lashes out at Kisaki but is protected by Izana who pushes him aside and is shot on the chest thrice. As Izana dies and Kakucho laments over his death, snow begins to fall and Kakucho reminisces the time he and Izana created their kingdom Tenjiku on a snowy day back when they were younger, a strong kingdom that will nurse orphans like them and give their citizens a place to call home. A few days later in Yokohama City Hospital, Kakucho is welcomed by Takemichi with a visit. He regretfully guilts himself for surviving the Kanto Incident and causing Tenjiku's downfall in light of Kisaki's and Izana's deaths, but Takemichi tells him that the fate of his gang depends on him and his actions as a whole. Takemichi then admits that he has not calmed down since the day Kisaki died, vigorously shaking. On the day of Emma's funeral, Kakucho visits the orphanage where he and Izana first met and reminisces the memories they had as children. As Kakucho remembers Izana's attempt at conversing with him, asking about what he was building at the back alley of the institution, he builds him a small grave made of sand, similar to the grave he once built for his parents when they first met. Kakucho places one of Izana's Hanafuda earrings on top of the grave and bids him farewell. Kakucho watches Haruchiyo Sanzu finish off traitors upon Mikey's orders alongside the other members of Bonten.

Once the traitors are killed, Kakucho instructs him to properly clean up the bodies. Later on, Kakucho is with Mikey atop a building on the 19th of June, Toman's founding day. He asks Mikey if he is positive about not attending the promised meet-up they once had twelve years prior in March where they buried a time capsule to commemorate Toman's disbandment, and Mikey tells him that it is better if he remains absent from the event. After Rokuhara Tandai clashes with Brahman whose goal is to also recruit Takemichi, Kakucho steps in and tells Takeomi Akashi that they cannot have him. Irked, Takeomi asks why he is in Rokuhara Tandai and if it was caused by a change of heart after Izana's death, to which Kakucho insults him back by bringing up the late Shinichiro Sano. Rokuhara Tandai's goal to recruit Takemichi and that he belongs to their gang instead. Wakasa Imaushi then appears behind him and threatens to destroy him, leaving him confused. In the Rokuhara Mark hideout, Kakucho watches South Terano punish the men who killed Ken Ryuguji. Sanzu with a steel pipe. In a flashback about Rokuhara Tandai's formation, Kakucho was targeted by South. He was mercilessly beaten by South himself and forced to join his gang as he admitted defeat. Amid the Battle of Three Deities, Kakucho approaches Mikey and comments that it is unusual for him to merely watch from the sidelines of an ongoing fight. Mikey confesses that he originally has no intentions of fighting but is now forced to as Kakucho adamantly edges him on to fight.
