Sakazuki (赤犬・サカズキ, aka Akainu?) is a Navy Fleet Admiral who is notorious for being one of the main antagonists in the story. He was promoted to new fleet admiral to replace Sengoku after the events of the war at Marineford. He has the Magu Magu no Mi Devil Fruit power which allows him to transform into magma element and is one of the strongest characters in the One Piece story. Akainu is a tall and burly man, tall like any other admiral, with stern and square facial features and short black hair. He usually wears a typical Navy officer suit with a hanging white cape and often wears a standard marine sports cap. His suit is maroon with a wide pink floral patterned collar, open revealing his sturdy neck and a large floral tattoo on his left chest to his left shoulder and upper left arm. Unlike other admirals, he does not wear a tie and often slips a rose on his left chest.
39;s candidacy for the new fleet admiral and challenged him for the post, but lost.
He also wears black gloves and a pair of black boots. Akainu is one of the main antagonist characters in the story. He is shown as a brutal and merciless naval officer. Not only was he hostile to pirates, he was also able to attack his own men who fled from battle. Akainu highly upholds the motto of justice. He was able to destroy a ship containing many civilians in order to prevent the possibility of one of the ohara scientists boarding the ship. Aokiji called him a fool that he overreacted. Not only is Akainu known to be tough and decisive, he is still willing to do some dirty tricks in winning battles. He succeeded in inciting Squardo to turn against Whitebeard. He also managed to provoke Portgas D. Ace by making fun of Whitebeard. After Akainu became the new fleet admiral, the navy was known to be more brutal in dealing with pirates. As fleet admiral, Akainu has power over the entire navy. He is also respected by his subordinates and is usually called by his last name "Sakazuki". But his way of administering justice frightens his comrades and some of them don't like him; like Aokiji calling him stupid when he overdid it. In addition, Akainu did not hesitate to attack a soldier who ran away from his post during battle and had tried to attack Coby for daring to voice objections during the war. Aokiji strongly opposed Akainu's candidacy for the new fleet admiral and challenged him for the post, but lost. Aokiji then chose to leave the navy because he refused to work under Akainu. Monkey D. Garp attempts to retaliate against him after Akainu incapacitates Portgas D. Ace, but can be restrained Sengoku.
Akainu became the main enemy of Monkey D. Luffy especially after the events that happened to his brother Portgas D. Ace during the war at Marineford. On the other hand Akainu views Luffy as the revolutionary son of Monkey D. Dragon, considering him to be the greatest threat in the future. He continued to chase after Luffy at Marineford saying that he would not let him escape alive. Although he failed to get Luffy, Akainu managed to injure Luffy leaving a large X scar on his chest. As fleet admiral, he held supreme naval power. He can give orders according to his ways. As an admiral, he can order a buster call attack if needed. As a naval officer, Akainu has a reputation for brutality in crushing pirates. Most pirates prefer to run away than fight when chased by Akainu. Akainu's reputation seems to be a scourge among pirates. He is also known to be very strong and is considered one of the strongest characters in the story. He is a skilled manipulator, able to take advantage of his knowledge of his opponents and trick them into doing what he wants. He feigns sympathy for Squardo and uses his hatred for Gol D. Roger to betray Whitebeard. He was also able to provoke Portgas D. Ace by mocking Whitebeard, luring Ace into attacking him while preventing them from escaping. Akainu has extraordinary endurance. He was able to receive two Whitebeard earthquake hits from close range that destroyed the entire Marineford and was still able to fight afterward against two Shichibukai; Crocodile and Jinbe, as well as the commander of the whitebeard pirates. He also has great stamina, being able to continue to fight without showing any fatigue during the war.
As an admiral, Akainu has the ability haki.
His strength is so great that he holds Whitebeard's bisento with just one leg. During the war at marineford, Akainu is shown fighting some strong characters such as; Whitebeard, Portgas D. Ace, Jinbe, Emporio Ivankov, Inazuma, Crocodile, Marco, Vista and all of the whitebeard pirate commanders except Jozu and Thatch. After the war, he was able to outperform Aokiji in a 10-day non-stop fight on Punk Hazard. Akainu possesses the Logia-type Devil Fruit ability, "Magu Magu no Mi" which allows his body to become magma elemental. His devil fruit is very superior because the magma element is proven to burn anything, including Ace's Mera Mera no Mi fire power. His power is so great, it can even permanently change the climate on an island like after he and Aokiji fought on Punk Hazard. As an admiral, Akainu has the ability haki. He showed it during the war at Marineford when he issued Busoshoku Haki with other admirals to block the Whitebeard Earthquake. He also has kenbushoku haki abilities such as when he heard the arrival of the Whitebeard pirate ship and also when Crocodile was suddenly attacked. Akainu, who is still a vice admiral, was one of five vice admirals who led the buster call attack on the island of Ohara. He destroys a refugee ship that contains many civilians simply because it prevents the possibility of infiltrating one of the scientists on the ship. During the preparations for war, Akainu is seen sitting with other admirals under the execution platform. He also heard a rumbling underwater at the arrival of the Whitebeard Pirates' ship.
Akainu charged forward when commander Jozu threw a large iceberg then unleashed his magma ability to shatter the iceberg and send burning rocks towards the pirates, destroying one of Whitebeard's ships. Akainu then walked behind Marineford and caught sight of a soldier fleeing the war. The soldier reasoned that he didn't want to die and worried his family. Akainu accuses him of cowardice and shame on the Marines and punishes him on the spot. He then received a den den mushi call that the preparations for Sengoku's plan were ready. Akainu suddenly appeared in front of Squardo and spoke to him. He instigated Squardo that Whitebeard had sold his allies to the navy in exchange for the safety of Portgas D. Ace and the Whitebeard Pirates. Akainu provides evidence by pointing out that the Pacifista forces never attacked Whitebeard and his crew at bay but only attacked his allies. Akainu adds that he also disagrees with Sengoku's plans including releasing Ace and Whitebeard, then offers Squardo an opportunity to save himself and his crew if he attacks Whitebeard. Because of his hatred for Gol D. Roger, Squardo finally believed and stabbed Whitebeard. Whitebeard charged forward then unleashed an earthquake blow towards the execution platform. Akainu along with the other admirals blocked Whitebeard's earthquake blow with busoshoku haki. After the siege wall began to confine the pirates, Akainu unleashed his magma attacks repeatedly at the pirates and shattered Aokiji's ice made. He along with other admirals blocked the arrival of Luffy who managed to get past the siege wall.
After Whitebeard and his crew made it to the plaza, Akainu appeared to withstand Whitebeard's bisento attack with one leg and commented that if he was allowed to run amok, the island would not survive and Whitebeard retaliated by telling him to try to protect it. They then clashed with each other. When Garp hits Marco, Whitebeard tells his men not to be fooled by his big name if he's just a grandpa. Akainu replied that he was also from the same generation. Whitebeard again unleashed an earthquake that destroyed part of the city. Akainu was angry with Whitebeard for his behavior while Whitebeard kept repeating his previous words that he should try to protect him. Whitebeard was suddenly in pain and bleeding, Akainu commented that even Whitebeard couldn't resist the effects of old age. He then landed a punch of magma right on Whitebeard's chest which made his crew scream in panic. When Luffy unleashed his haoshoku haki to save Ace from an execution attempt, Akainu told him that Luffy used his ability unknowingly. When Ace manages to escape, Akainu assures his men that there is nothing to worry about, as the two pirate brothers will be recaptured. Akainu then started to chase after Luffy and Ace who intended to save themselves along with the others. He started provoking Ace by saying bad things about Whitebeard. The provocation was successful and they began a power struggle which Akainu won. Akainu accuses Ace of bragging about his abilities because he is a logia and adds that he is magma that burns anything including his fire. After that, Akainu intended to attack Luffy but was blocked by Ace which caused his death. Luffy looked shocked by the incident and then fell unconscious. Akainu is about to attack Ace again, but Jinbe doesn't let him and holds the magma blow with his hands until it burns.
He appeared right in front of Jinbe and asked him to hand over Luffy, but Jinbe refused.
Marco and Vista immediately attacked with haki which made Akainu groan in annoyance. Whitebeard who was furious hit Akainu hard with an earthquake blow from behind making him fall down in pain. Akainu retaliated with his magma blow that shattered half of Whitebeard's face. Whitebeard again issued an earthquake blow towards Akainu's side which also destroyed Marineford into two separate parts. Akainu then fell into the pit while grinning in pain. After Whitebeard's death, Akainu survived and made a tunnel underground. He appeared right in front of Jinbe and asked him to hand over Luffy, but Jinbe refused. Akainu prepares to attack him, but Ivankov and Inazuma come to help Jinbe confront him. After defeating Ivankov and Inazuma, Akainu continued to chase Jinbe while asking him to hand over Luffy. When Jinbe jumped, Akainu gave a magma blow but Jinbe was able to block it. Akainu once again dealt a magma blow right on Jinbe's back, injuring Luffy. He then intended to kill Jinbe but Crocodile suddenly attacked him while throwing Jinbe and Luffy at Buggy. Not only that, Akainu also had to face the arrival of all the remaining commanders of the Whitebeard Pirates who wanted to save Luffy. Then he single-handedly faced them all, including successfully knocking out the Curiel commander. The fighting itself only stopped after Coby shouted for everyone to stop the war. Akainu who feels angry begins to attack Coby, but is restrained by Shanks who appears suddenly with his crew to stop the war. The Navy responded to the request of the Blackbeard Pirates by sending a warship aboard Akainu. Knowing that negotiations have failed, Blackbeard takes his men away because they are not ready to face Akainu while leaving Jewelry Bonney tied up behind.
Akainu confronts Bonney saying that the World Government has been worried about his departure, to which Bonney replies that he hates the World Government and the Navy. Admiral Sakazuki was nominated for the position of fleet admiral after Sengoku retired. Aokiji, who rejected the nomination, challenges Akainu to a fight for the post. They then fought on Punk Hazard. The magnitude of the power of each is able to freeze half the island permanently and burn the other side. After fighting for 10 days straight, Akainu came out victorious even though both of them were badly injured. Not wanting to work under Akainu, Aokiji chose to resign from the navy. After becoming a fleet admiral, Akainu relocated the naval base from marineford to the headquarters of the new G-1 world branch. Thanks to his leadership, the navy is known to have a stronger sense of "justice". The following events are Non-Canon and therefore are not considered part of the Canon story. After Borsalino informed Zephyr's return, Sakazuki ordered a summit at the new naval headquarters. He is an angry listener when news of the Dyna Stone being stolen and the destruction of the Marine base. Reluctantly, he sends Borsalino and the six vice admirals to take care of him and the Neo Marines, secretly hoping that he doesn't have to come to kill their former instructor. Drawing this conclusion is part of the non-canon story.

After Donquixote Doflamingo was supposed to renounce his Shichibukai title and Luffy and Law formed an alliance, Akainu was seen with other high ranking marines discussing his next course of action. After he stated that he would not let Law and Luffy do whatever they wanted, Akainu confirmed that the situation would be cleared up in one day and noted that he had sent Admiral Fujitora to take care of it. Later, Akainu communicated with Fujitora via Den Den Mushi to inform him that the report given to the naval headquarters regarding Doflamingo's resignation was fraudulent, and noted the annoying situation, and that he should contact the Gorosei about it.
