Romans 6 (abbreviated Rom 6) is part of Paul's Letter to the Romans in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. The author is the Apostle Paul, but it was written by Tertius, a Christian who was with Paul at the time. The original manuscript was written in Greek. In Rom. 6:1-23 Paul questions the erroneous notion that believers can continue to sin and remain safe from punishment because of God's grace in Christ. Paul responds to the antinomianist deviation from the doctrine of grace by emphasizing one basic truth: true believers are known as "in Christ" because of their baptism into Christ and their death to sin. They have passed from the realm of sin to the realm of life -- with Christ (Romans 6:2-12). Because true believers have definitely separated themselves from sin, they will not continue to live in sin. On the other hand, if people continue to sin, they are not true believers (cf. 1 John 3:4-10). Throughout this chapter Paul emphasizes that it is impossible for a person to be a slave to sin and a slave to Christ at the same time (Romans 6:11-13,16-18). If they surrender to sin, the result is eternal punishment and death (Romans 6:16,23). - 1) The NT uses several Greek words to describe various aspects of sin. According to what was already mentioned in 6:21 and 6:22, here the wages of sin are contrasted with the grace of God, and death is contrasted with eternal life. In this verse sin is described as the one who pays the wages. The term used in this verse for "wages" is often used for "warfare of soldiers", and there are interpreters who think that "warfare of soldiers" is meant here, but given the use of the term "slave" in this paragraph, this term is better interpreted as "money". slave pocket", so Paul says that when we "give up our members as slaves to uncleanness" sin becomes our master, and gives us the wages of death.
