She is the mother of Ayame and Yuki Sohma. She favored her younger son, Yuki. With his poor health, she restricted him from doing almost anything. Her older son, Ayame, had even witnessed her slapping Yuki for wanting to go outside. She hated her elder son, Ayame, for being too flamboyant. Ayame had always hated his mother and she might even be a contributing factor towards the gap between Ayame and Yuki. She has long hair and shares the same type of eyes with her two sons. She is either seen wearing office clothes or formal long dresses. She tends to bring a handbag with her around. Ayame and Yuki's mother is a self-centered, arrogant, proud and selfish woman who pursues materialistic gain at all costs, even at the expense of her sons as she effectively sold Yuki to Akito (due to him being the rat and supposedly the closest to God) so she could have a good life. When confronted about this, she shows absolutely no remorse for the fact she very much used her own son as a tool for personal benefit, and chastising Yuki for complaining, in her view, that the family head "preferred" him, either oblivious to the fact Akito inflicted tormentous physical and emotional abuse on Yuki, or simply ignoring for them convenience (the latter being the most likely, as she was seen ignoring his pleas), although her interactions with Yuki suggest more that she is angry about Yuki not embracing his "role" as the "favourite" and the supposed status that would bring him and further scorning him for his "bad choices".
This controlling behavior is also likely the main reason why she is unnerved by Ayame who is fundamentally a free soul who doesn't fall in line with her selfish wishes. Ayame in turn has stated that their mother is deeply drunk into status and power. She is seen frequently complaining about the hardships of her life, the details of which are never explained but that may well explain why she clings so much to material benefit as a form of happiness, even if it means sacrificing emotional health in the process. Because of her hard rooted beliefs, she often gets unjustifiably angry when defied and can at times dish out very hurtful remarks like believing it was better her sons wouldn't been born so as to not be so burdened. Ayame remarks that she has trampled on the things important to her, suggesting that deep down, she does to some degree care for her sons, but is too absorbed on her views to show proper affection. It is shown once in the manga that she hit Yuki as a child after he'd wandered away from Akito and it is earlier implied (through a memory of Ayame's) that it may have been more than once. After Yuki asked his mother to be at the Parent-Teacher Meeting, she shocked both him and Mayuko Shiraki, his teacher, by saying that she had planned what college Yuki would go to. Yuki's mother continued by saying that Yuki couldn't choose the right things, as he decided to go to a no-name school, and that he had to rely on her to do anything right.
After a while, she agreed, and told him not to waste his opportunity.
However, Ayame intervenes, presenting Mayuko with flowers. He proceeds to struggle with his mother, until she throws a fit and leaves. Yuki later caught up with her and told her that he wanted to choose the college for himself. After a while, she agreed, and told him not to waste his opportunity. Despite her personality and history with her sons, Yuki has been shown trying to reconcile his relationship with her, with little improvement. Growing disillusioned with Ayame she pushed her expectations into Yuki and used him as a tool for personal gain. She chastises Yuki for not embracing his status as Akito's "favorite one" and for making "bad choices". Deep down, she seems to care about him, although by far and lot she does not express anything close to affection. Because of their dislike of each other, and his mother seeing him as a tool, Yuki wanted a kinder mother, and he developed a mother love of Tohru. Originally she had high expectations for Ayame, which all but banished and turned into scorn when Ayame refused to fall in line with her wishes and her control, going as far as calling him a good for nothing. Because he is a free soul who has chosen his own path in life along with his overall quirkiness, she is visibly unnerved by Ayame and has difficulty in keeping composure with him. Her name is never mentioned. It is unspecified whether she is a Sohma by marriage or blood, but due to her treatment of her sons, it is believed to be by blood, seeing as how she understood how the Sohma hierarchy worked. Towards the end of the series, it was shown that she does care for Yuki more than just as a tool, as when Yuki wanted to get a cellphone from Manabe's influence, she told Yuki to not to use it to much while giving him the guardian's required permissions. Yuki noted she was almost like the other mothers.
